Already accepted other offer. Should I interview at firm I would consider working @ FT?

Got a finance internship secured for the summer after junior year. But, I got invitied to a consulting interview for an application i submitted a while ago. The comp and name recognition in finance is better (I think), but the consulting gig might be a better fit for me (although I am unsure). I'm wondering, if I am considering recruiting for this firm FT, is it worth taking the interview? Which would look better for FT recruiting? Declining interview or taking a chance? To be clear, I would also consider working FT at the bank I’m working @ as well.

Well, you're in a bit of a pickle, aren't you? But don't worry, it's a good pickle to be in. Here's my two cents:

  1. If you're genuinely interested in the consulting firm and see a potential future there, it might be worth going for the interview. It's a great way to learn more about the company, the role, and the culture. Plus, it's always good to keep your interview skills sharp.

  2. If you're happy with the finance internship and see a potential future there, then focus on that. You don't want to spread yourself too thin or give the impression that you're not committed.

  3. In terms of what looks better for full-time recruiting, it's not so much about declining or accepting interviews, but more about your performance and achievements during your internship. Recruiters want to see that you've made the most of your opportunities and have tangible results to show for it.

  4. Remember, it's not just about the name recognition or compensation. Consider which role aligns better with your career goals and where you think you'll be happier and more fulfilled.

So, take a moment, weigh your options, and trust your gut. You've got this!

Agree with the above comment, just adding that it might actually hurt you in the long run if you decide to recruit FT next year for this firm and decline the interview offer (unless you do it in the politest terms). All to say interview this year doesn’t guarantee the same interview next year.

Agree it never hurts to recruit for both. My question is what type of job is it in Finance? If it's a SA at a reputable IB or something along those lines it might lead to more opportunities in both worlds down the road. If it's a regular corp finance internship I think a consulting internship would be more beneficial if you are trying to break into mgmt consul.
