Bain Industry Strengths (Besides PE)

When I hear Bain being compared to MB, people mainly just mention PE . I'm considering an offer, but I am curious about Bain's expertise beyond just PE, since that is not necessarily something I'm super interested in.

When comparing MBB, I've heard that because McK and BCG are bigger than Bain, they cover more industries/have broader expertise. I looked at the company websites, but they all had the same industries on there, so that wasn't super helpful.

I'm aware Bain doesn't do much public sector and is still developing their implementation offerings, but beyond that, are there industries McK/BCG covers that Bain does not?

Also, how would that impact exit opportunities in those industries? For example, if I'm  interested in healthcare, and while it seems like Bain does good work in the space, I usually hear McK/BCG mentioned as the big names.

while I can't speak to the specific industry comparisons (outside of obvious examples like PE), exit opportunities will be best at the firms that are bigger names/do more work in a certain field. this is pretty logical - for instance, if you are interested in healthcare, there will be more projects in the healthcare field (and while you can't guarantee where you will be staffed, expressing your interests will be easier if there are more opportunities). additionally, these projects will be at better/larger companies, and consultants can be connected or hired into industry due to the projects they're staffed on. if you're looking to get the best exit ops in your industry of interest, you're going to want to be at a bigger firm or one that at least has a more well known practice in your field of interest. While Bain covers a similar amount of general industries to McK and BCG (like you mentioned with the website, they're not going to ignore an entire sector), some of their groups are smaller or somewhat lesser known in regards to exit ops and prestige

Exit opps at all of MBB are basically the same - no one is going to deny you an interview because you worked at Bain instead of McK or BCG, and if they do, that's their own issue. Client exposure is virtually the same, only difference is Bain does less gov't / public sector work
