BCG rumored to not hire UG/MS this cycle, per Management consulted

Per management Consulted email, BCG may not be hiring UG/MS this cycle interns included. Curious to hear from those in the loop or at BCG what internal talks look like.

I’m no longer at BCG so can’t speak to anything directly, but thinking about this, it makes zero sense.

The difference between hiring a small class / having a low yield for interns vs. hiring NO interns is huge from a messaging perspective and small from a financial perspective. If BCG really is in trouble and needs to cut back, it makes WAY more sense to cut back to a small intern class (and there’s lots of room to cut, intern classes were in the multiple hundreds of people already by 2020) than to stop intern hiring entirely.

Also, the reality is that interns are cheap and partners are expensive; if you need to cut costs you fire partners, not interns. BCG has always been notorious for cutting early career partners who haven’t had a strong start commercially.

Anecdotally, my office, one of the bigger ones, sent out an email last week asking for referrals for this year's associate recruiting cycle for both summer intern and FT roles so this appears extremely unlikely.
