Best Field of Concentration to Study for an Elite Internship in Consulting
Just finished my freshman year at a top IVY(HYP) with a 3.54 GPA concentrating in economics. However I am thinking of switching to Applied Math or CS concentration because people told me this will look better to recruiters. If I stay with economics and graduate with an honors degree my GPA will undoubtedly rise as I have gotten a large chunk of arduous classes out of the way. However, if I switch my concentration to CS or applied math I run the risk of my GPA falling a little. I really want an intern position the summer after my junior year at a top consulting firm and I want to know which will set me up better for accomplishing this goal. I am also a student athlete on a nationally ranked team which will hopefully give me leeway in not having a perfect GPA. I am aware GPA and concentration only plays a part in this whole process but any input will really help me. Thank you in advance
Hi Arch_r45, the silence is deafening, sorry about that.... Any of the threads below helpful?
If those topics were completely useless, don't blame me, blame my programmers...
Your current degree is fine. Instead of worrying about changing it, I'd try to raise your GPA and find interesting experiences that can bolster your resume. If anything, if you know you can get a better GPA with your current major I'd favor that over the risk of changing and getting a worse GPA.
I agree with this; economics is a perfectly fine degree. Like this poster said, focus on your GPA and extracurriculars instead.
I do a humanities degree and I got a summer internship at an MBB. Don't sweat it!
3.5 doesn't look very good at an Ivy, given the rampant grade inflation. Focus on getting your marks up
