You'll be the only person who's going to be able to make this decision. Two weeks is still plenty of time to make a legitimate decision. Try to reach out to people who've done both of those things and see what they think -- oftentimes by speaking to people who have had these experiences will shift your thinking in many ways. In the end, go with your heart and your gut. No matter what you choose, it'll be the right decision for you. Asking blindly on a forum may get you some great opinions (some helpful and others not so much), but in the end it's you who ultimately will be undergoing the experience.
Best of luck.
Ya, the 2 options are too different for us to help you. You just need to think about what you'd be happiest doing and which will help you achieve your career goals.
Agreed with above, talk to as many people as possible who have done each. You still have enough time.
My sister did Teaching For America, she loved the job, hated the crooked administration. An 8th grader in her class told her she was going to "gut her." The metal detectors caught the girl bringing a knife in the next morning; she was suspended for the rest of the week and was back in her class the following Monday. One of the metrics used in No Child Left Behind are the disciplinary rates - if your school is expelling a lot of students it's a red flag to the government. The schools circumvent this by not disciplining kids properly (like when one threatens to kill you and then brings a weapon to do so).
Anyways, your school might be rough (potentially no toilet paper in the bathroom rough... I'm not kidding) and if I had to make the decision personally I would do MCDP, but I do not have the passion to teach in low income areas. However, after TFA you can probably go back to consulting, but if you go into consulting now you probably won't ever get to try TFA. So in that light, if TFA is a now or never, it might be the better option.
Be prudent in your deliberations, good luck.
I'd go with ACN
Here's my two cents: If you're deliberating between something else and TFA, don't do TFA. TFA is for people who absolutely know they want to do TFA, people who are so passionate about that kind of service that it's a no brainer for them. I think TFA is that kind of job - you'll know for sure if you want to do it, and if you're wavering, then it might not be the best option.
It is a rough environment at low income schools, and if you're not 100% passionate about what you do then it won't be as good of an experience. Do Accenture!
Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments, they were actually the type of things I needed to hear to move forward with my decision in a confident manner. I went accenture.
Congratulations!
