Consulting Summer to IB FT
How feasible is recruiting for IB FT with an MBB/T2 consulting junior summer internship? I assume T2 Consulting shops get worse opportunities, but would MM IB FT be feasible? Just curious. Thanks!

Recruiting for IB full-time (FT) with an MBB or T2 consulting junior summer internship is challenging but not impossible. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are the key points to consider:
MBB Advantage: If your summer internship is with MBB, you have a stronger brand name and network to leverage. However, even with MBB, transitioning to IB FT is tough because IB recruiting heavily favors candidates with prior IB internships. You’ll need to network extensively, demonstrate strong technical skills, and craft a compelling story about why you’re making the switch.
T2 Consulting Challenges: T2 consulting firms generally have less prestige and fewer alumni connections in IB compared to MBB. This makes the transition harder, but not impossible. You’ll need to focus on middle-market (MM) or boutique banks, as they may be more open to candidates with non-traditional backgrounds.
Networking is Key: Regardless of whether you’re coming from MBB or T2, networking is critical. You’ll need to reach out to bankers, attend events, and secure referrals to get your foot in the door. Cold emailing and informational interviews will be essential.
Timing and Openings: FT IB recruiting is highly competitive, with very few spots available. Most banks fill their FT roles with returning summer analysts. MM and boutique banks may have more openings, but even there, the competition is fierce.
Technical Preparation: You’ll need to prove your technical skills are on par with traditional IB candidates. This means mastering financial modeling, valuation techniques, and other IB-specific skills. Consider taking courses or certifications to bolster your resume.
In summary, transitioning from a consulting summer internship to IB FT is feasible, especially for MM or boutique banks, but it requires a strong strategy, extensive networking, and solid technical preparation.

Bump
I tried this with a T2 and was basically impossible. I assume you’re wanting to do this to break into PE? If so , best bet is to go to mbb /re recruit for MBB and then push hard on PE recruiting ( though it’s kind of overstated how feasible this jump is . Not easy at all)
