So I recently accepted an offer to jump over into the consulting industry, with a smaller firm that focuses on data and analytics consulting for F500 companies. I am pretty excited about the position and the potential skills that I will obtain, but was just curious as to what I could look forward to a few years down the road, should I look to hopefully get into a larger firm.
At the level I'd be coming in at (analyst/associate consultant), it's typical consulting work and assisting the higher ups. The industry is pretty niche and was wondering if, because I'm only focused on a certain industry, that I will be forced to stick with that my entire career.
I do want to grow with this company and get experience, but say 5-6 years down the road. Any thoughts?

I've read lots of articles stating that the demand for big data/analytics skills are going to rise every year. I'm sure it's going to be in huge demand 5-6 years from now and there will be plenty of opportunities.
The Big 4/IBM/Accenture/Capgemini have Data/Analytics consulting areas, in case you wanted to move into a bigger firm in the future.
I am in Data Consulting as well, and have been wondering the same thing. I have been thinking of switching to to strategy / management consulting, as i like working with the bigger picture. I feel like i do alot of the same things, working with clients, defining problems and coming up with solutions, and then take an approach to validate my hypothesis'. Difference is my approach involves databases and SQL coding, instead of interviews and small excel sheets.
But i dont know if there is room for data geeks in management consulting teams? (If anyone can elaborate)

What company or industry did you move into the consulting industry from? Did you have a background specifically in Data/Analytics?
I've been all over the place, mostly in brief contract positions. Big 4 ops, IB internship, 2x F500 corp fin, and now here. I have an MIS/Finance degree, so I know that played a role in me getting this position.
Exit to MBB might be possible. More and more of the work I have seen (at MBB) are all done on Gb/Tb of data or on client servers, using SQL. Obviously still a small portion of the overall work done, and only in very specific instances.
In interviewing, always spin everything to the interesting insight derived from the data, and the following actions/recommendations. And make sure to flex your muscle when you can to hone your soft skills, e.g. communication, client management etc, etc.
That would be ideal, everything you mentioned is what I am currently doing. I doubt my academic credentials will warrant my entry into MBB, but maybe my network will have expanded by then to give me some more opportunities.
