Deloitte (via mid-sized firm)
Looking for some insight, though I realize most people who would be able to answer this question are too busy to spend time on this board...
I am currently a first year manager at a mid-sized firm based in Chicago (e.g., FTI / Navigant / Huron). I've been offered a Senior Consultant position in the human capital practice at Deloitte. The next step is for me to let the recruiter know what my salary expectations are for this position. I told her I would get back to her by the end of the week. I don't want to make the same mistake that I did with my current employer in that I essentially accepted their first offer (when I was hired as an associate) -- only to find out later that I was being underpaid. Even now, as a manager (promoted last year) I make essentially the same as our MBA candidates, despite having a masters degree (non-business), a law degree, and 4 years relevant experience.
Question: What are the salary expectations for an experienced Senior Consultant at Deloitte? I would assume it would be somewhere in the $130k to $140k range. Your comments are appreciated.

Yep. Ranges are all over the place because practices are not usually specified. But, based on the data from Glassdoor, WSO, managementconsulted dot com, etc., I think the range I mentioned above is reasonable. (This is just an effort to gather additional data points, if any).
Yes, your range seem decently reasonable, especially because you are coming from being a manager at your mid size firm. Look at a glassdoor, i know their salary average are correct for the BTAs
My understanding is that you get promoted to Senior Consultant after about a year at the Consultant level. And you get hired as a consultant after Masters. So...based on your experience I would push for the manager level. Just tell them that and they might actually agree....unless you are in a hurry to leave wherever you are working. Also, if you are gonna be working the the NYC metro area, tell them you would need 150k.
From a few people I know that got the direct promote from Consultant to Senior Consultant at Deloitte, it's not likely to happen before the 2 year mark. As a first year manager at a (arguably) lower tier firm, its probably not the best idea to try and push to come in at the same level. Your salary range for Senior Consultants is pretty reasonable, base on current salary info.
I was an intern there 4 years ago and knew several CS that got promoted to SCs after a year. I think it is driven by supply and demand.

I mentioned my concern about going from Mgr to SC, and the recruiter replied that she has seen SC promoted to Mgr within one performance cycle. The drawback for me is that I would essentially be "starting over" to prove myself as a consultant in another firm. I've already established a strong reputation and great contacts in my current role (hence the promotion to manager last year). On the plus side, Deloitte has a strong reputation, and well-established methodologies (my current firm lacks the latter characteristic).
Trust me, I wouldn't be super confident about the "well established" methodologies. It was quite sloppy the last time I was there. Things are pretty much chaotic at any consulting shop.

Do you have your MBA? Might make a difference for the speed you progress to Manager.
145-155 might be a good range to start in. I know multiple SCs at Deloitte who are in this area (and some who are higher). Just consider what the post-MBA salaries are for Deloitte, where you'll enter as an SC (see management consulted salary report).
Worst case scenario, they respond with a lower offer. Better to start higher and get them to go lower.
