Do you always work on a laptop?

Do you always work on a laptop as a consultant? Do you ever get a docking station or an opportunity to use a full-size keyboard and mouse? I don't see how I could do my best work on a laptop, I feel that it majorly slows me down. Have you ever seen a consultant pull out a full-size KB+Mouse or one of those portable second monitors? How weird would it be if I did this?

Thanks

Yes, I work entirely from a laptop either at my client site in the pantry (gasps), in the firm's office or at home. As I am usually mobile and do not have a fixed desk, I do not use a monitor.

However, a mouse comes in handy especially when you are working with shapes or figures in slide decks.

Even if you happen to hook your laptop up to a monitor, it should not be a problem. In fact, you feel less strain in your eyes working with a monitor allowing you to view and read easily.

I've had some projects where an additional large monitor was brought in to the client site and I also connect to a second monitor in the home office. I am much more productive with more screens. Oh, and I always use a mouse.

When I travel a lot, I just use a light ultrabook. Should be enough to cover 1-3 days of travel. When I'm in my office, a desktop with extra monitors is easier to use.
