EY-Parthenon TSE vs Strategy

Hey, I'm a student at a top UK target applying for an internship at EY-Parthenon and am debating between applying for the TSE branch (specifically operations within TSE) vs the general strategy one. I know already that TSE works more on M&A due diligence across different industries while strategy is just like general, also across different industries.

Main focus would be difference in exit ops/prestige between the two (mainly for MBB post-grad), as well as the type of day to day work, hours and culture.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, EY-Parthenon is known for its M&A-oriented cases, which are usually shorter (2-5 weeks) and require less travel and client-facing time. This is likely to be the case in the TSE branch you're considering. The exit opportunities from EY-Parthenon are strong, with the most common being corporate development/corporate VC roles and strategy & corporate finance teams at large organizations. Less common, but not unheard of, would be principle investing roles such at middle market PE or growth equity shops.

As for the general strategy branch, it's more diverse and could offer a wider range of experiences. However, the specifics of day-to-day work, hours, and culture can vary greatly depending on the specific projects and teams you work with.

In terms of prestige, EY-Parthenon is well-regarded in the industry, but it's not typically placed in the same tier as MBB firms. That said, the experience and skills you gain there could certainly be valuable if you're aiming to move to MBB post-graduation.

Remember, it's not just about prestige - it's also about the type of work you want to do and the skills you want to develop. Both branches could offer valuable experiences, so consider which aligns best with your career goals and interests.

TSE is more M&A oriented so if that's what you're more interested in, go for that. Exit opps would probably be MBB M&A strategy, or if you're lucky you can make the transition to IB. The pure strategy team is more company-based, I think the exit opps would either MBB pure strategy or an in-house role in a corporate.

Have worked on projects in both groups in my time at EYP, here’s how the groups are split (in the US at least)

TSE project examples: Post-merger integration, divestiture strategy and execution, IT due diligence, PMO

Strategy project examples: PE commercial due diligence, corporate/business unit strategy, market entry/assessment, growth strategy
