UK perspective- S& is the better choice since EYP has not been doing well recently and S& has a pretty strong reputation as one of the better T2s. At the end of the day however they’re both T2 so outcomes will be very similar.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's a breakdown to help you decide between EY-Parthenon (EYP) and Strategy& for a junior summer internship:

1. Exit Opportunities

  • EY-Parthenon: Known for strong exit opportunities, particularly in private equity and corporate strategy roles. EYP has a focus on commercial due diligence and strategy, which aligns well with PE recruiting. Historically, many interns have received return offers, and the firm has a good track record of placing candidates into top-tier roles.
  • Strategy&: Offers solid exit opportunities as well, especially in corporate strategy and industry-specific roles. However, it may not be as heavily associated with private equity exits compared to EYP.

2. Prestige

  • EY-Parthenon: While part of EY, EYP has maintained a distinct brand and is often considered one of the more prestigious Big 4 consulting arms, especially in strategy consulting.
  • Strategy&: As PwC’s strategy consulting arm, it carries a strong reputation, particularly in certain regions and industries. However, it may not have the same level of standalone prestige as MBB or even EYP in some circles.

3. Overall Performance

  • EY-Parthenon: The culture is described as distinct from the broader EY organization, with a focus on strategy and commercial due diligence. Interns often report a positive experience, with strong mentorship and networking opportunities.
  • Strategy&: Known for its focus on high-impact strategy projects, Strategy& provides a robust consulting experience. However, some feedback suggests that its integration with PwC can sometimes blur its identity as a pure strategy firm.

4. Culture and Work Environment

  • EY-Parthenon: The culture is often described as vibrant and engaging, with opportunities for socializing and networking (e.g., interns being taken out by full-time staff). Hours are standard for consulting but can be intense during peak periods.
  • Strategy&: Offers a professional and collaborative environment, with a focus on delivering high-quality strategy work. The work-life balance can vary depending on the project and region.

Recommendation

  • If your goal is to maximize private equity exit opportunities or work in a firm with a distinct strategy consulting identity, EY-Parthenon might be the better choice.
  • If you’re looking for a broader range of corporate strategy exits or prefer the backing of a global powerhouse like PwC, Strategy& could be a strong contender.

Ultimately, the decision should also factor in your personal preferences, the specific office culture, and the industries you’re most interested in. Both firms offer excellent opportunities for growth and career advancement.
