How the fuck do you get into consulting?

I've been trying to piece a plan together via YouTube videos and scraps I can find online... but where the fuck are the guides?

For investment banking, there are so many resources (BIWS, WSP, etc.), but I cannot find a single comprehensive guide on consulting for the life of me.

Does anyone have any resources on management consulting in general, or guides on strategy consulting, and RX consulting?

For context, I am a sophomore student preparing for 2026 summer consulting internships.

If you go to a non-target, how do you get an interview in the first place?

Can't recommend a comprehensive guide for consulting. But tbh it is much more straightforward than IBD recruiring process. You have to do two things: get an interview invite, nail their standard case.

Get interview - good CV, relevant experience, networking, etc.
Nail case -  do 50-70+ mock cases with peers/software.

That's it, you will get an offer.

That was sort of the conclusion I was getting at.

Wasn’t sure how complicated getting an interview was (besides having a great resume + typical networking).

Any additional advice for those attending non core schools?

Networking pretty useless for UK. Just focus on:

  • Having a well rounded resume (strong academics, brand-name experiences/experiences you've had an impact, some extra curricular and leadership positions too)
  • Nailing the online tests (T2s typically have very similar online tests to other firms e.g. IB, but MBB annoyingly have quite unique ones esp. Mck and BCG)
