How to break into MBB or Tier 2 Strategy Firm in Dallas

Hi WSO,

I'm looking to break into MBB or Tier 2 Strategy firm in Dallas or NYC (preferably Dallas in the longterm) and would like some help.

Background: BA from Ivy League undergrad (~3.1 GPA in Political Science) with solid college extracurricular 2nd year consulting analyst at Tier 2 name-brand Non-Strategy (Digital Implementation) firm in Dallas

I would like some help on 2 things:

1) Advice on MBA -> Should I shoot to go to University of Texas (Mccombs) or shoot for the stars (I can get in-state at Mccombs)? Or, is Mccombs even iffy due to my relative low GPA? Also, how does Mccombs do in helping students get recruited to name brand strategy firms (i.e how likely is it that I land a job in Dallas with my background)?

2) Advice on Current Job -> Do I continue to stick it out at my current firm until I reach 2-3 years of post-undergrad experience before going to get MBA, or do I transition into a boutique NYC strategy firm for no more than 1-2 years max (pretty confident I can do this due to my undergrad connections)?

Would love to hear what WSO thinks!
