Is it crazy to want to switch to MBB mainly for the social part?
My roommate at Bain works hard no doubt but people have so many friends at work who actually hang out. In IB I can't stand any of these people, they're so cookie cutter. I also think the variety of backgrounds people come from is appealing to me as well.
Switching to MBB for the social aspect isn't as crazy as it might sound. Based on the most helpful WSO content, the culture and social dynamics at MBB firms, particularly Bain, are often highlighted as a major draw. Bain, for instance, is known for its strong sense of camaraderie and connection among colleagues, with consultants frequently forming genuine friendships and engaging in social activities outside of work. This contrasts with the more transactional or "cookie-cutter" relationships you might experience in IB.
Additionally, the variety of backgrounds and personalities at MBB firms can be refreshing. Bain, McKinsey, and BCG each have distinct cultural vibes, but all tend to attract diverse, personable, and intellectually curious individuals. If you're seeking a more collaborative and socially engaging work environment, MBB could be a great fit. Just ensure that the switch aligns with your long-term career goals as well, not just the social aspect.

Some of my friends made the switch partially for this reason and they don't regret it. Your average person at MBB is much more social and less 'finance bro' corporate driven compared to IB. A lot of people at MBB use their annual leave to go on holiday with colleagues too which I've found is almost unheard of in IB
Yea that is just crazy to me. I’d do anything to get time away from these people
