Is Northwestern a National Target?

I am a 1st year student at Northwestern University, I am studying economics and am planning to get the Kellogg Certificate. I was wondering if Northwestern is a target for MBB nationally (as in it allows for MBB jobs/recruiting besides Chicago offices). I am especially interested in New York, LA and SF MBB offices.

Also, is there a comprehensive list of target schools for undergrad?

Are you asking why he/she would specifically not look to work in Chicago vs. another city out of preference, or are you asking from a hypothetical recruiter standpoint? Just because he/she goes to a school in the Midwest doesn't mean they have to work in the Midwest. Plenty of people pick a school because of the school and not because of where it is located (myself included). Seen plenty of people from Stanford, Duke, UChicago, etc. in NYC.

When I was on the IB recruiting team for internships, I didn't mind why they weren't picking our SF or Chicago office instead of NYC.

Just curious, what would be an appropriate response to the question? I like Chicago, but I would not want to live in the city (the crime problem too much nowadays and I have a friend who has gotten mugged at gunpoint in the city). I would definitely rather live/work elsewhere like NY, SF or LA.

From my recruiting experience, Bain and BCG are a little more regional in their recruiting efforts while McKinsey recruits for all of their US offices at the schools that they visit. I went to a university in the South and BCG + Bain only targets our school for their Southern offices, but McKinsey selects candidates each year for offices everywhere: Chicago, NYC, Boston, Dallas, San Fran, etc.

Northwestern is a target yes. Not even going to target can guarantee you a position in IB. Some schools just make it easier to a varying degree.

Yeah, that's exactly how it works for us. You pick where you wanna final round, but interview first round with the regional office that runs the recruitment. After first round, you just go to your preferred final round office. If you get an offer, you join that office. I have heard that Bain has a more local staffing model for projects too. Not sure about BCG.

I've heard that Northwestern isn't a target for the NYC banks so it's really difficult to break in there, since their superdays happen after all the candidates from target schools have been selected. However, NU is a target school for the chicago banks and i've heard from friends that they have first rounds through OCR.
