LOMS. How helpful is it really?

I've done about 35 cases so far and I'm comfortable where I am but want to improve. This is the most important increment in improvement for me - going from good enough to ace. I heard LOMS (look over my shoulder) does exactly that from a couple of consultants. They're extremely positive about it.

I am almost broke at this point so will have to ration many "necessary" things to get this program. Just unsure if it's actually going to pay off. Thoughts?

Although I did not personally use LOMS, I did read the author's book, Case Interview Secrets, which I found to be a decent enough introduction. However, I would not suggest restricting essential resources for it, and obtaining it from a library may be a viable option. Instead, practicing with individuals who are currently employed at the firms you are interested in, such as seniors at your school who have offers or interned there, was the most beneficial for me in landing an offer from MBB. Since you have already completed 35 cases, it appears that you have surpassed the fundamentals. Many alums from your target firms may also conduct a practice case with you, but it is best to wait until you feel more self-assured before using these favors. If you are looking for a more innovative approach and are targeting Oliver Wyman instead of Deloitte, you may want to reach out to your school's Deloitte alum to practice cases with them. Although I have heard some individuals mention the free Crafting Cases program as being beneficial, I cannot vouch for it as I have not used it. Nonetheless, I believe there are numerous online options available, and I would not advise rationing many "necessary things" to acquire the program.

It's quite out of date and a few of the recommendations are now no longer the way to do it, sounds very robotic/scripted. Overall I'd say it's a B or B- at this point, but His ideas on how to open are absolutely incorrect and his frameworks are good jumping off points but aren't comprehensive.

Best thing to do is to network with consultants at the firms that you'd like to go to and to practice with them.

Remember, always be kind-hearted.

In my personal view, LOMS is fantastic to grow conscious of the more subtle case cues. I think what helped me when I was in the midst of casing is recording my own case execution and comparing that to LOMS to see how I'm verbalizing my structure, how I'm articulating the math component and how I'm pacing myself.

It helps kind of figure out which part of the component I needed to improve on most. So instead of going for more mock interviews, I'd run brainstorming drills or math articulation drills, and then incorporate that into my next case.

It's definitely not necessary, and I personally only used a small fraction of it (like listening to three cases), but it definitely helps in the intermediate stage of consulting prep.
