MBB (non-US) -> MBA (M7) -> ???

Hello everyone,

I'm writing this post to ask about the possible post-MBA career path.

Sorry for some typos in advance- I'm writing this thread with my phone :'(

I recently got a full-time offer from MBB and happily signed the offer. I've done the internship and loved the job and the environment so I'm pretty satisfied with my decision.

I was just wondering what my future path would be after "graduating" the analyst program roughly after 2.5 years.

I graduated from the top university in my home country and also will be working at the same country. I'm very willing to pursue an MBA degree after working for a couple of years but I was just wondering what would be the possible options ahead of me.

Considerations: 1. I am NOT a US citizen. Even worse, I am not a native English speaker.

I would love to work a year or two in the States but I am totally open to working in HK/SG. (--> Ding again - I'm not a Chinese speaker either.)

  1. My ultimate goal is to get into PE in my home country. That being said, working at a small/mid-cap PE (I'm aware that getting into a top-tier PE is almost impossible for me-) or BB ibd would be great to boost my career.

So my questions are:

  1. Is it a realistic goal for me to aim BB ibd or small-cap PE after MBA?

(I've done a off-cycle internship at BB ibd and also a long-term internship at mid-sized PE. Received a full-time offer from the PE shop but I wanted to start at MBB for certain reasons that cannot be explained here.)

  1. Should I pay back the consulting firm right after MBA graduation if I decide to leave for another company?

Thanks

first off, i think you're selling yourself short

Solid PE is definitely possible from McKinsey or Bain, and I think from BCG as well (but not certain), and people make the transition quite a bit (get staffed on a DD project in your 2 years)

M7 is absolutely possible, especially since youre goal is to go back to your home country- with good grades + great work exp you'll be fine

You can recruit to be a pre MBA associate at a PE firm right after your 2 years at MBB (you don't need banking AND consulting), and then do the MBA and come back to be on partner track

Its probably much harder if you wait to join PE until after your MBA
