McK Operations Senior Analyst

Looking at the McKinsey Operations Senior Analyst track, I'm a bit confused. They require 2+ years experience and prefer a master's degree. The role is 2-3 years then direct to associate.

Why would anyone with 2-4 years experience and a master's take a 3 year analyst role? Is the senior BA comp really competitive enough to attract someone who already has that kind of resume? What sort of comp are we talking about for what would effectively be a 3rd 4th or 5th year analyst? The direct to associate is nice, but why not spend the same 2 years in business school? Am I missing something?

You're def right. Spend the 2 in b school and get on a faster track.

Get on a faster track... are you implying there's a faster track once you hit the associate level with an MBA vs going direct to associate after 2-3 years of senior analyst experience?

Okay - thanks then. Yeah I'd been through the posts and glassdoor etc, which just shows a $79k salary from a few years ago. I'm curious more about the 2nd and 3rd year comp between the first senior analyst year and promotion to associate. $79K doesn't really seem competitive for who they're looking for.

If you think of it, most of them are coming from Industry where starting salary is $60K or even less (they are in cities like Cincinnati or Hartford as well). Industry raises are 3%-5%, so these guys might be making $65K two years out. $79K is a nice bump, for a more interesting job and better brand name. If you are wondering about the pay raises, it's probably 5%-10% annually, 20%-25% for promotion.

Just guesses, but should be close.
