McKinsey Implementation
Hi,
I'm in the interview process for an Implementation Coach position at McKinsey. I don't want to ask my recruiter these questions as not to provide the wrong impression.
Basically, as an experienced hire 3-5 years out of undergrad, what can I expect in a compensation package? Does it vary by locale? Is it negotiable?
Also, what are the exit opps like? MBA? Industry? Does it really vary from going in as a Business Analyst? If you stay with the firm is progression the same? Partner track?

I can only talk about your second thought, in regards to career, Implementation at McK is quite much like their expert track, so it won't be the same progression as a generalist. In relation to exit opps, I think you would have odds at M7, as 1) McKinsey in your resume period. 2) Business Schools know that even not being the McK partner track the recruitment process is still being pretty much the same, so you have the smarts.
In regards to exit opps in industry those are obviously not the same as that of generalist, think that you would be doing the same kind of work that B4 MC and Accenture, pure implementation/execution, so think internal positions in operations like performance analyst, process management/improvement and such.
Thanks for the response. I suspected as much. My ambition is to go the partner track. I suspect I will go to business school in order to "reset" myself and rejoin the firm as an associate after I get my MBA.
Really curious on the comp. package for a new implementation coach, however. Saw the glass door with only two data points... Does anyone have first hand knowledge?
Any update on this? I am also wondering about compensation.

I have to respectfully disagree with Holybanker that "Implementation at McK is quite much like their expert track, so it won't be the same progression as a generalist". All three are very different tracks but all of them can be partner electable. - Generalist track to Partner - Expert track to Expert Partner (same comp, same benefits, added content expertise vs. generalist Partner, only downside is exit opps will be restricted to the field of expertise) - Implementation is relatively new and may not have a well defined path yet, but it could very well evolve into a partner electable track. The specifics are different in US vs. India vs. Australia vs. South East Asia. This is a great discussion to have with your recruiter.
I can't comment on the comp, but I'd be surprised if it's less than a BA.
