mckinsey keep in touch program

I'm part of the keep in touch program for one of McKinsey's US offices after interviewing for the BAI program last summer. This summer, I am interning in a different city (which I had put as my second choice) that I am now looking to rank as first when I apply again. Would it be okay to switch the rankings of my first and second city for this application cycle or would this be a red flag?

Switching the rankings of your preferred cities for McKinsey's application cycle is generally acceptable and not considered a red flag. Based on previous WSO threads, McKinsey's "keep in touch" program is designed to maintain a connection with candidates who showed promise during the interview process. Your decision to adjust city preferences demonstrates adaptability and a clearer understanding of your priorities after gaining more experience.

However, it’s important to communicate your reasoning effectively. If asked, you can explain that your internship experience in the second-choice city gave you valuable insights and made you realize it aligns better with your career goals or personal preferences. This shows thoughtfulness and intentionality in your decision-making, which McKinsey values.
