McKinsey Knowledge Center?

Anyone have any insights into the research analysts at McKinsey's knowledge center? I've seen posts saying that you specialize in a certain sector, but that wasn't the vibe that I got from my phone interviews. It is part of the transactions group and there is only 6 people in the group, 2 in the North America (I'd be the second).

I just want to do my due diligence since I don't want to pass up on a potential good opportunity.

I know a few people there:

  • Depending on which team you join (e.g. telecom and media, corporate finance), you do get to gain expertise in a specific industry/ function
  • No/ little travel with most days spent in the office
  • Great training opportunities

  • Not client facing, not always seen as equals by consultants

  • Significantly lower pay vs. consultants esp as you move up
  • Not partner electable, and very hard to move to consulting track

Hope this helps!

Thank you very much. I've been looking at old threads, but couldn't find an answer. Some have said industry research is good but research at knowledge center isn't so good. Do you know anything about that? Mind shedding some light? Thanks!
