McKinsey lowkey offices
What are some more lowkey offices that McKinsey has that not everyone is applying for. Obviously New York, Chicago, San Francisco are out. But what about DC, Philly, Boston. Dallas sucks I heard from someone I coffee chatted with. Maybe Florida??
Bump
boston is rlly nice, they just moved into a new space Feb 2024. its fairly big tho so idk how "lowkey" it is, but def still way less than NYC (for comparison the bos intern class is prolly less than half the size of NYC)
i've heard NJ and CT is also nice, all the juniors basically live in NYC and work out of there and commute to office like twice a month
Ok thanks! It is more strategic to apply to “less popular” locations because McKinsey considers your application singularly for that location right
the bar is the bar. if you cant meet the bar, you cant get in. so go for the one you desire.
have heard good things about the atlanta office and mck southern offices in general. even though theres less demand compared to nyc its also less spots. they took ~12 interns this year and it is also a pretty popular location among duke vandy georgia tech emory and uga students
DC is also nice, a couple blocks from the WH. By no means a small office though, so might not be what you are looking for. Interesting concentration of public and social sector work if you are into that, in addition to the typical stuff.
Probably dominated by Georgetown and Boston schools
Gaming what office you apply to isn’t going to improve your chances in any kind of meaningful, predictable way. The market is pretty efficient. As soon as people find out an office is less competitive, they apply there and the edge goes away.
This is nice to know. This way, if you meet a certain “bar,” you aren’t just limited to regional officer but competitive for offices across the coast. For example, going to stern and being competitive for San Francisco office
This is not true, else why doesn't everybody stop applying to NYC / SF if according to your efficient application hypothesis people know it is the most difficult office?
... because people want to live there more than they want the potentially tiny incremental probability of getting the job...? Some people just aren't willing to move to Cleveland even for McKinsey.
NJ does a ton of work in Big Pharma.
