McKinsey or BCG?

Have the opportunity to work for either McK or BCG in Chicago. Any thoughts?

Factors: I'm interested in exiting either into public sector or biotech/pharma. I want to start a family in a couple years (I'm female, so pregnancy burden is on me).

Limited to Chicago because that's where fiance has his dream job. I would have applied to DC if it were up to me, but it's a two-body problem.

The interviewers also claim that Chicago is one of the most diverse offices in terms of project types that can be worked on, but am very interested if anyone has more perspective on that.

Thanks!

I guess that is the most straightforward way to find out about industries - I'll reach out to the recruiting managers to see if they have anything to say.

I'm very nervous asking them about policies about pregnancy. They've said things about maternity leave (which is great) but what does it look like when I return to work? What does the balance of work/pregnancy/young children look like for current consultants? I'm worried that asking about it would make a glass ceiling for myself before I even begin.

Hence reaching out to a community who is not in charge of staffing me in any way to know if anyone has input on this :)

I don't know anything about the policies in the US. But as far as I can tell from Belgium, you would only be highly encouraged to ask those type of questions. They tend to be very flexible regarding those subjects here. Can't imagine it being that different in the US.

Your after pregnancy worries are definitely rational and the only way to really find out the truth is to do your homework and contact other female consultants.

Personally, I would just base my decision cultural fit and on which colleagues I would prefer to work with.
