Need Transferring Advice [Undergrad]

Currently a first-year undergrad at Babson and looking to transfer to a school that would give me better odds at eventually landing a role at a top consulting firm. Currently have a GPA in the 3.8s and relatively strong extracurriculars after my first semester.

Definitely want to transfer to a target school although I have seen some presence from some big 4 companies on campus during my time here (not sure about recruiting/placement?)

When I applied to Georgetown MSB as a first year, I was waitlisted and then eventually placed on the extended waitlist although I'm uncertain as to how much of a boost if one at all that would give me.

Any advice on what steps I should take this upcoming semester to make my application to a target as strong as possible?

If you've transferred from a non-target to a target school for consulting, or have insights about the process, I'd really appreciate any input.

Although I’m not answering your question, make sure you are certain you want to transfer and that you aren’t getting the cart before the horse. Although a good career may be a nice goal, personal relationships and extracurriculars add vital to a healthy life. College hoping your freshman year solely for consulting mat not always be the best. However, if you are sure, go for it!

I transferred from semi/non-target to target and ended up recruiting for banking. BUT just because you're at a "target" does not mean interviews are guaranteed. You should approach recruiting with the same work ethic as if you're still at a "non-target"

Here's some advice on transferring in general based on my experience:

  • Get 4.0 gpa in your second sem

  • Have a solid narrative that...

     1. doesn't speak down on your current school, ....

     2. focuses on what the school you're applying to uniquely offers (e.g. major, courses, research opps, and/or programs, etc.), ...

     3. and how, after you thought Babson was the best choice for you, your goals evolved, and you realized that you want to take your education / career in a direction that only the school you're applying to can support best (doesn’t have to be entirely true)

  • Get the essays done early. Depending on how many you have to write, balancing school with cramming essays is just unnecessary stress

  • Lastly, cast a wide net and try to apply to as many schools you'd take over your current (for reference, I think I applied to 13)

Typed this up super quick so sorry if it's hard to understand. Feel free to reach out w more questions.

This is exactly the advice I was looking for, really appreciate the response.

Will definitely reach out later on once I begin to start properly looking at schools and beginning my applications if it isn't too much of a burden.
