opinions on where to go next.
To summarize quickly Im a senior in college that studied engineering and I've realized through a couple of that I really don't want to go into engineering as a career. So I did some research and found consulting to be interesting. Only problem is that the consulting firms look at GPA heavily and my GPA is ~3.4. In order to make my resume more attractive I studied and took the GMAT and did decently well(750+). I understand recruiting season doesn't start till July, I'm just wondering if theres anything more I can do beside networking in order to make up for my GPA. Also is worth applying to MBB considering my GPA will be significantly lower than most applicants. I do understand that I have a decent shot at getting an interview at other firms, but id really like to get a chance at getting one with any of MBB (but then again who wouldn't). So if you have any advice on what I should do next that would be greatly appreciated.
If you're a senior in college, full time consulting season already passed for all firms besides a few boutiques...
yeah I know but due to engineering perquisites ill be taking a 5th year to graduate. So I have another recruiting cycle to go through
I can't speak for all of 3 MBB, but in the one I work recruiters often classify you according to two dimensions: academic results and extracurricular activities (i.e. internships, sports, awards / medals, etc.) No matter how hard you try (but please try), your GPA will not change significantly in the last year. So my suggestion is to focus on these extracurricular activities: try helping some NGOs (e.g. I worked for 2 years building house for the poor), join some sports team at your university (really, any sports), etc. And, on top of that, network as much as you can with MBB to make sure you get a slot in the interviews. Once you're in the interviews, it's totally up to your performance in the cases.
Best of luck!
