Path to MBB/T2: JLL, Deloitte, Amazon or Tier 2 Strategy in Eastern Europe?

Hey everyone,

I’m a penultimate Masters student (top-10 EU Business Schools) and after an uneasy year I managed to land some offers. I would like to hear from you which one would help me best get into strategy consulting and beyond. My ambitions are to get into MBB or a good tier 2 in the UK/Netherlands/Scandinavia/Dubai (limited to these by my language skills) and work my way to an MBA. After that, who knows, back to consulting for a while or longer, PE, tech…

Deloitte Consulting: I was offered consulting positions in the IT, SAP, Data Analytics and Core Systems Transformation (PMO) teams. Needless to say, my exposure to strategy would be very limited and the work will be mostly implementation / IT. I am split between IT (potentially most strategic line of work), Data Analytics (most analytical, a bit of Big Data) and Core System Transformations (PMO, therefore almost 100% implementation, but most "management" type of consulting). It’s a good name and it's still consulting.

JLL London: offered to support a newly created still small division dealing with data analytics. I would likely have more influence even as intern simply as I would be part of a small team. While it’s a highly analytical work, it is all about Real Estate and not close to strategy consulting. Personal plus is I;ll get to try London as a place to live and it's one of the cities I'm considering for full-time, also I presume experience in the same region counts for something.

Amazon EU: Product Management position with a focus on expansion. Will have both strategy and implementation work. I have considered similar positions and employers for post-consulting positions, so I am a bit biased towards this.

Leading Tier 2 Strategy Consulting Firm (think RB/OW/ATK/Strategy&) in Eastern Europe: Final stage interview next week, but if I get it I will have to make my decisions fast. It may seem as the obvious choice as it is strategy consulting, but I’m a bit worried the whole “Eastern Europe” location may undermine the value of this work experience. From what I saw work will be proper high-level strategy.

Now to make things a bit more complicated, I may be able to complete 2 internships from the ones mentioned above, one after the other, over the course of the next months. Let me know what you think, which ones should I consider and what would be an ideal combination.

Thanks!

Dude, Tier 2 in EE, hands down. Location in Europe for strategy consulting doesn't matter that match, these firms all operate global staffing model (unlike Big 4) therefore you will be staffed on projects around Europe. They expect the same quality from consultants in Paris, Rome or Bucharest. Secondly, it is possible (and not that hard) to transfer internally between offices.

One more thing - strategy consulting is one of the best paid jobs you can get in EE and due to low cost of life you can have an amazing quality of life almost right away, in comparison to relatively low consulting salaries in London (or even lower in Spain / Italy / Greece).
