In my experience, it will likely get your resume into the pile, but you will still need a solid resume and/ or a good networking track record with others at the firm
If it was a partner instead of an associate would it be a different story?
Hardly. The partner would have to be quite senior and really be willing to push for it. The days where knowing a partner meant an easy offer/ interview are pretty much over.
