Re-applying to big 3 after delayed start date at tier 2 company

I am a 2024 grad who interned at a tier 2 firm last summer. They just recently pushed my summer start date back 6 months. I am looking to start work earlier and am not trusting that they will hold to this date regardless. Would it appear bad to re-apply for the big 3? would they consider a 2024 grad for associate position? thoughts are appreciated

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights regarding your situation:

  1. Re-applying to the Big 3 (MBB):

    • Timing and Reapplication: It's generally advisable to wait more than the minimal 6 months before reapplying to MBB firms. This is because they are often off-cycle and hiring fewer people, which increases the likelihood of rejection (2019 APD MBB Full Time Recruiting).
    • Cover Letter Importance: When reapplying, ensure your cover letter highlights what has changed since you last applied and why you are now a better candidate. This is crucial for second-time applicants (Q&A: Re-applying to MBB and getting an offer).
  2. Considerations for a 2024 Grad:

    • Associate Position Eligibility: While the context does not explicitly state the eligibility criteria for a 2024 grad applying for an associate position, it is important to note that MBB firms typically have structured recruitment processes. Networking and referrals can significantly enhance your chances, especially if your GPA or other credentials are not top-tier (chances of MBB).
  3. General Advice:

    • Networking: Continue networking with alumni and professionals in the industry to tip the odds in your favor (Apply ASAP or Wait for 2021 SA?).
    • Consulting Involvement: Get involved with consulting-related activities such as case competitions, volunteer consulting projects, and professional conferences to strengthen your resume and demonstrate your commitment to the field (2019 APD MBB Full Time Recruiting).

In summary, while reapplying to the Big 3 after a delayed start date at a tier 2 firm is not inherently bad, it is essential to strategically plan your reapplication, highlight significant improvements in your profile, and leverage networking opportunities to enhance your chances.

I am in this exact same situation. I think I’m still going to apply, what I’m worried about though is if one of the MBB interviewers asks me if I have other offers. Idk if I should bring up my signed T2 offer or not. I’m worried that if MBB finds out I already signed a T2 offer they might blacklist me and the T2 will find out somehow and blacklist me too.
