Should I still apply?

I'm starting my new job (non-MBB consulting) in less than a month, and while I've had some time on my hands, I've been thinking back on my OCR experiences and feeling like I really, really could have done better.

So the question is: should I bother applying off-cycle for other firms now? It's not as though my resume has gotten significantly better. I'm also not sure I can devote time and energy to this (fly-out interviews first month on the job...unlikely). And would the firms I'm applying to look down on the fact that I haven't even started my job yet, and already I want to leave?

Or, should I just buck up and do my best for two years, try to get the most out of the experience, and wait for grad school to hit the reset button?

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I personally think it wouldn't help to apply for off-cycle before even starting your job. They will certainly question you about leaving preemptively, and it may look like you don't think things through.

That said, there is nothing that says you must stay for two years. I think that it's perfectly acceptable to leave earlier - but at least then you would be able to say that you tried it out, and for whatever reason, you feel this consulting is not for you (maybe too operationally focused, clients aren't in the right sector, whatever you want). Maybe do some stuff on the side though and beef up your application on whatever you feel is lacking.

Best of luck
