Still in college Directour? According to all sources, MBAs prefer Mckinsey the most, Bain 2nd, BCG 3rd, McKinsey was and Is ranked the most prestigious, Bain was and is ranked the best place to work overall and its been that way for a while. Monitor is better than Booz (at least industry perception).

Source: Consultingmag, CNN money, Vault, Im Ex MBB and now work at a PE firm that hires consultants very regularly

1styearBanker is entirely wrong. Monitor is NOT an Accenture... it's a generalist company, and you'll be ready for b school or industry after two or three years. If you're not having a good time + want to transfer to MBB, sure, go for it... but I would make the most of what you have (which is a great offer in a tough economy).

FWIW - Fortune loves BCG (http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/bestcompanies/2009/snapshots/3.h…). I'm not sure if McK + Bain participate though. I know McK doesn't participate in the Consulting mag survey that Bain regularly wins.

EDIT: And yeah, you totally made the right call turning down Booz.

FWIW

  1. Fortune loves BCG. McK and Bain dont participate. If they did we could completely disregard that list, any rational person would agree that any MBB is better than starbucks :P

  2. You are wrong about consulting mag. McK participates in consulting magazine. They did not participate in 2008 but have participated in all the other years. they are ranked 2nd this year as you can see -> http://www.consultingmag.com/article/ART637448?C=UEuZjjkEzDjq9KVQ

Ugh, I'm now in the same situation you were in--trying to pick between Booz and Monitor. Why did you end up going for Monitor and which office will you be joining?

I think that I like the Monitor vibe better, but I worked at Booz for the summer and ended up with a pretty good network there.

thanks everyone!

columbas: i signed for cambridge. it was a tough choice, but the PE practice ultimately led me to Monitor. I must say, in Booz's defense, that many of their other practices are more robust (say, media, for instance). are you an undergrad or MBA? Because I wasn't aware of an undergrad intern program...
