Staying at client sites during weekends?

Hello all

When engaging on studies far from home office, is it possible to stay at clients city once in a while during the weekend? (every 2nd or 3rd week) So working remotely instead of being at home office during fridays
Possibly get "ticket refund" or significant other flown out instead of buying tickets back home?

I've heard that some firms where you have these opportunities - any input on which firms have policies like this - anyone of the MBB firms?

Best regards

/S

Yeah that's very doable at every firm I've heard of.

Generally they will either pay for you to fly somewhere else (as long as it's less than original ticket), someone else to fly to you (as long as it's less than original ticket), or for your hotel/meals over the weekend (as long as it's less than original ticket).

Worst I've heard of is some firms taxing your flights if you fly somewhere else, or fly someone to you, as you get personal benefit from that, and thus it's taxable. This varies by firm, but either way there are ways around the tax man...

Yes of course, all the MBB firms have it and use it all the time... not at all frowned upon and sometimes even encouraged as it allows you to be more productive on Thurs night / Friday.

One caveat, it's usually comped hotel at the client location OR fly out significant other.. not both.b

I would caution you against making these kinds of blanket statements. Yes, generally it's fine and nobody cares, but there are times / situations / cases where it would not be a good idea.

On a 4-day-a-week travel case where everyone is flying in from different cities, I would suspect 99% of managers would say "I don't care" -- you're not all going back to the same office anyway, so what difference does it make? On the other hand, if you're all from the same home office and the team meets in person on Fridays, then it's probably ok to miss those once in a while but it would certainly be frowned upon to miss them regularly. Or if someone is a marginal performer or has been flagged as someone who is having an issue affiliating with their class/office, it might not be wise to never show your face on Fridays. I would approach the issue with the manager and make sure it's fine before assuming anything.

That's fair, if you're in Asia or Germany. But I've never heard of that in America...even on 100 hour a week cases, there are very few instances where I've heard of co-locating on Saturday or Sunday, across all offices/partners/projects etc. in my firm.
