Strategy consulting Q&A

STEM undergraduate from top UK university

Happy to share personal experience, from application to day-to-day,  my thoughts who consulting is suitable for (e.g., rationale for jumping from STEM to consulting), how to best prepare for interviews , "secrets" I wish I knew before joining etc.

Experience in PE DD  and corporate strategy.

Work depends quite a lot on the type of project you get staffed on.

Pace of work (typically):  DD >> Strat >> transformation

Length of project (typically): transformation (6-18m) >> Strat (6-12 weeks) >> DD(2-8 weeks)

Life style also depends if there will be travelling, seeing as you are interning, probably not much and may have more time to yourself

Exits: depends on tenure, generally you see a slight outflux of peeps every c.2 years of tenure, common ones are corporate strategy, PE houses (esp. for consultancies with lots of DD exposure)

Trend: heavy adoption of AI across the board, firms that lean in will 1. need to rethink their business model re. fees and 2. making sure you as someone in the firm knows how to leverage AI properly

Breakdown: startups kind of minimal, corporate / PE split is c.50/50
