Target schools for RX Consulting
Current undergrad here, saw all the recent buzz about RX consulting (not sure if it's because of Mr. Tariffs π), but just wanted to see if there are any 'target' undergrad schools that restructuring consultancies are more likely to recruit out of.
I know that they barely do any undergrad recruiting, but there's a small class each year as far as I'm aware, and even if not, undergrad's gotta play a role in getting a position down the line as well right? Haven't seen many Harvard / Yale etc guys in the field, is that for a reason (maybe because those colleges are more about networks and prestige than actual technical knowledge...)?
Not really a thing to my knowledge, less of an official pipeline/process, less emphasis on prestige, more of a niche skill set with less exposure to undergrad hiring market, etc. Breaking in is not tremendously difficult provided you have a year or two of experience in an analytical role (everything from big 4 tax work to IB/buyside). Firm dependent but many shops wonβt take kids straight from undergrad.
Just hijacking this for a list of those consultancies that do
A&M hires in multiple offices
FTI hires interns to my knowledge but doesnβt run much FT process
Alix doesnβt formally hire but have seen a couple FT out of college
BRG hires in multiple offices
Ankura hires NY/Chi
Province firm/Miii ill group together , these are more specialized and hire ad hoc
RX consulting is a sort of hybrid between a finance and consulting role, likely leaning more to the former. Any targets that would get you into BBs or solid MM IBs will likely also resonate with the top RX firms.
I broke in to T2 ofrom a STEM school that doesnβt even technically have a business school, itβs relatively meritocratic. But I wouldnβt count on it staying like this. Ultimately, more and more kids apply each year and they will eventually have to target select schools.
each a&m office runs their own recruiting process, so they typically pull from the regional target schools
They don't typically recruit from undergrad, it's much easier to get in after a year or two of work experience first. Most firms don't train well and it can be very sink or swim. You'd be in great shape having had some IB or Big 4 experience first, with a big emphasis on modeling.
FTI hires quite a few interns from a few schools
I heard that it was 300 across all services, and like 10 out of that for restructuring, so if that's right it's a pretty small amount for RX. Ppl forget that fti does a bunch of stuff in addition to restructuring (PR, econ, strategy, PE etc).
Can only speak to Texas offices, but I know Alvarez & Marsal has either established pipelines or recruits directly from (on a lesser scale) UT, Rice, Texas A&M, and Baylor. Miiiiight be the case for SMU too, but canβt speak to that directly.
