This is asking on behalf of a friend of mine (I'm in CRE not consulting). My friend is struggling to land an entry level role in consulting, he prefers staying in the DMV area. He's had an internship in the past with a startup company that's unrelated to the field with educational software and is a part of our University's consulting group where the club gives advise and does work for small businesses/startups in the Baltimore area. Also, his major is international business and is fluent in Chinese which is a little different from the other applicants that normally apply to these roles.
What do you recommend him doing to better increase his chances of finding a job after graduation? Should it just continue networking with alum and apply to smaller firms or try to land an internship after graduation with hopes it can convert to FT? Any help would be greatly appreciated on this

Consulting recruitment is over at all major firms AFAIK. If he's deadset on consulting, I'd suggest reaching out to smaller local firms that might not have very well defined recruitment processes and pipelines, and networking his way into an interview. However, these firms often don't do very interesting work or pay very well
If I were him, I'd take the L and recruit for any F500 jobs that are recruiting from your university (hopefully your career fairs haven't already passed)
