Waitlisted at MBB

So yesterday, I recieved notification that I was waitlisted from my top MBB choice. Anyone have any idea of the liklihood of getting off in the next month or so? Also, I have a BB IB offer that expires next week. Anyone know what happens when you renege a FT offer?

I was waitlisted over three weeks ago (told I passed, but was 'on hold' until interviews finished up), and in the meantime I've heard some of my classmates getting rejected every week or so. I think it's really a crapshoot dependent on how many interviews are left, how many are on the waitlist, and a lot of other unknowable factors.

I'd definitely leverage your offer to keep the pressure high on them. It makes you more desirable and gets rid of the 'backup' mentality they may have towards you. Sounds like you have good options!

Also - if you REALLY want MBB, burning bridges may be your best bet. You won't be able to work for that bank again, but that's the tradeoff for your dream job at that point.

Best of luck! Keep your morale high!

Don't know too much about waitlists, but I recently reneged on a IB offer from a BB and am going to an MBB. Didn't want to do it and felt really bad about it but ultimately felt it was the best choice for me....I would just make sure before you do so that you have a good enough relationship with the recruiter/MDs in your group that they wouldn't be so upset they try to go to your school and figure out where you are recruiting now. Super unlikely but if they wanted to, they could try to tell the MBB you reneged and you might end up losing both offers. Again, probably wouldn't happen but is a risk to consider - feel free to PM me if you want to talk more about it
