Weird/Unintelligent People getting MBB/T2
I know this will get MS but I truly am trying to understand this. I’m doing FT IB so I may just not understand what consulting firms are looking for, but I had always really respected people who got MBB and other elite consulting firms like LEK or Kearney out of undergrad because it meant you were intelligent, could communicate effectively, and put in the hard work of casing. That was certainly the case for undergrad internship recruitment for these firms, but their FT recruitment is absolutely heinous. I’ve seen them take genuinely undiagnosed autistic people who couldn’t get through a single case without breaking down, unintelligent creatures who have consistently shat their pants during a bump and dump session instead of going to class, and just purely lazy people who really haven’t worked hard ever. This isn’t to bump down consulting, but it is a shame that I can’t look at these firms with the same respect I once did.
The same types of morons can get through IB, don't worry. Often people really pull it together for recruitment or have an anomalously good performance at the right time in interviews, or just get lucky. Hiring processes have a decent error rate
That said, most of the true goofballs get shaken out within a couple years given how intense the job is and how rigorous & comparative feedback programs are
