What 'Types' of Consulting Have the Most International Travel?

Hey ppl,

This is a weird one, but I'd love to get into an area of consulting that gives a fair amount of international travel, rather than just domestic, and pays well. Are there any areas that satisfy this (management, strategy, RX, econ, litigation...), or is that too much to ask for?

Thx.

International travel isn't going to be what you think it is, just FYI. On many projects, you'll be going to undesirable cities or to some remote plant near a major metro. Even if you're in a cool city, at most, you'll have 1 evening to yourself where you can take advantage of the city. The rest of the time will be spent shuttling from your hotel to an office building where you'll be working long hours and ordering in from Uber Eats.

Regardless, I'd imagine that outside of MBB, restructuring has a lot of travel because the work can be very operational and hands-on with Management. In general though, travel in consulting has gone down quite a bit post-COVID. I think most teams travel every other week or once a month, unless there's an important milestone to meet. There can be a good amount of colocation, but that wouldn't involve travel internationally.

That's very helpful, thanks. I'd say the worse the city is, the more interesting I'll probably find it because of the unpredictability that more established citites / places lack. I'd be chilling in a shack in Siberia
