Will Mck let me switch office location before start date?

Already signed FTO months ago, but need to switch locations for a person reason (strong reason tied to health). No start date given to me yet. Does anyone know if a switch is possible. Switch would not be to NYC which I know is popular.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, switching office locations before your start date can be a delicate matter, especially with a firm like McKinsey. Here's what you should consider:

  1. Strong Reason: Since you have a strong personal reason tied to health, this could be a compelling argument for your case. Firms can be understanding about health-related issues, but it's crucial to communicate this effectively and sensitively.

  2. Timing: You mentioned that no start date has been given yet. This could potentially work in your favor as arrangements might be more flexible before a start date is set.

  3. Non-NYC Location: The fact that you're not requesting a switch to a popular location like NYC might make it easier, as there could be less competition for spots in the office you're interested in.

  4. Procedure: You should reach out to HR or your recruiter as soon as possible to discuss your situation. Be prepared to provide any necessary documentation regarding your health reason.

  5. Networking: If possible, try to network with people in the office you wish to transfer to. Having an internal advocate could be beneficial.

Remember, every situation is unique, and while there's no guarantee, presenting your case professionally and with all the necessary information can help your request be considered more seriously.

No one on wso can tell you whether or not Mck will let you do this. Just ask Mck, the worst they can do is no. Start with asking your recruiter, they will be able to ask the proper people and let you know.
