When it comes to working or interning in international offices, especially with MBB (McKinsey, BCG, Bain) or Tier 2 consulting firms, here’s what you need to know:

  1. Likelihood of Getting a Job in the US vs. Home Country:

    • It is generally more challenging to secure a job in the US as an international candidate compared to your home country. US offices tend to prioritize local candidates due to visa complexities and cultural fit considerations. However, if you have exceptional qualifications, strong networking skills, and relevant experience, it’s not impossible.
  2. Does Where You Intern Matter?:

    • Yes, where you intern can significantly impact your chances. Interning at a well-known firm or in a relevant industry can boost your profile. Additionally, interning in a country where you aim to work (e.g., the US) can help you build local connections and demonstrate familiarity with the market, which firms value.
  3. Do Firms Sponsor Visas?:

    • Many top consulting firms, including MBB and some Tier 2 firms, do sponsor visas for exceptional candidates. However, this is not guaranteed and often depends on the specific office, the demand for talent, and your qualifications. For example, firms like Deloitte Consulting, PwC (Advisory), Oliver Wyman, and others have been known to sponsor visas for international candidates.

To improve your chances: - Network extensively with consultants and recruiters in your target region. - Highlight any unique skills or experiences that make you stand out. - Consider starting in your home country or another international office and transferring later, as internal transfers can sometimes bypass visa hurdles.

Good luck!
