worth applying to deferred mba

incoming intern @ mbb

thinking about deferred mba but am curious if it’s better to major in Applied Math with a 3.64 or major in Finance with a minor in math for a 3.72 GPA.

also is it worth grinding for deferred mba in general

Based on previous WSO threads, here are some insights:

  1. Deferred MBA Programs:

    • Deferred MBA programs are extremely competitive but offer the advantage of securing a spot in a top MBA program early on. If it doesn't work out, you can always work for several years and apply again without losing time in your career plan.
  2. Major Selection:

    • The choice between Applied Math with a 3.64 GPA and Finance with a minor in Math for a 3.72 GPA depends on your career goals and interests. However, a higher GPA can be beneficial for MBA applications, as it reflects academic excellence.
  3. Value of Deferred MBA:

    • Deferred MBA programs can be valuable, especially if you have a clear career path and want to secure a spot in a top-tier MBA program early. However, it's important to weigh the costs and benefits, including the opportunity cost of not gaining work experience immediately.
  4. General Advice:

    • If you are already working in a prestigious firm like MBB, the experience you gain there can be highly valuable for future MBA applications. The highest performers often succeed with or without an MBA, so it comes down to personal choice and career goals.

In summary, if you have a strong academic record and clear career goals, applying for a deferred MBA can be a strategic move. However, gaining work experience at MBB can also significantly enhance your profile for future MBA applications.
