Anyone go from a "financial management" role to a "p&l ownership" role?
I.E. going from being the finance business partner to being the one calling the shots and owning a business unit?
I've recently become enamored with CFOs that have gone on to take the helm of the company and be named CEOs (Indra Nooyi of Pepsi, Ulf Mark Schneider from Nestle, Sir Martin Sorrell of WPP, etc.). The common theme that they all had was that they transitioned from a CFO type role to the owners of small business units first before getting trusted with the CEO role.
Anyone have any personal stories or experiences of how to transition from managing a P&L's finances to owning it?
