Are post MBA titles set in stone?

For example, I know in corporate finance many people will come in as a manager post MBA. Many large companies even have programs for MBA students that train them to become a manager.

my question is, if someone is coming in a little later, say after 7-8 years of experience and already was a manager or even senior manager pre-MBA, would companies be receptive to having this person come in as a senior manager or even director post MBA?

It depends. If you come in through a formal on-campus recruiting process, then you will have little/no wiggle room when it comes to your title/comp. companies with formal programs like these tend to bring in a 'class' of MBA graduates and there is typically no difference in comp between the incoming class regardless of pre-MBA years of experience so you might see situations where the girl that worked as a teacher for 3 years after college is coming in at the same level/comp as the guy who worked 10 years as an engineer.

If you come in through off-campus recruiting, you will have room to negotiate comp/title, but this process will look a lot more like applying for a job outside of business school. As in, you will be competing not with just other MBA students, there will be experienced hires applying to these roles as well. Off-campus recruiting tends to work out better for people that already have relevant experience in their field

So even if someone was already a senior manager, goes through OCR, would have to come in as a manger post MBA?

Titles vary between companies so I dont think the newest company is going to really care if you were an SM at your last company. If you truly deserve to be a SM at the current company, you'll get promoted up fairly quickly. I actually 'downgraded' titles between my job pre-MBA and my post-MBA job, but the actual job responsibilities were higher. Focus more on the job responsibilities and less on the title

Ok thanks that’s very helpful! Would salary be more negotiable post MBA if someone were making a high amount pre-MBA?
