Corp Dev Questions to ask interviewer

Just wondered if anyone had any particularly good questions they've asked (or been asked) at the end of previous interviews? Have a final round coming up and have already asked the standard stuff around deal size, deal teams, transitioning from banking to becoming the client etc. in prior rounds and wanted something new - thanks!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insightful questions you can ask at the end of your Corp Dev interview:

Firm Culture and Experience

  • How would you describe the culture here?
  • What characteristics do you like to see in your co-workers?
  • Is there more of a team or autonomous atmosphere here?
  • Excluding the people you work with, tell me what you enjoy most about the job and the firm.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Can you talk about your role in the last [M&A, ECM, DCM] deal you worked on and what specifically you learned from it?
  • I saw the company participated in [insert transaction]. If I was working on a similar transaction, what responsibilities would you expect me to take on, and what responsibilities would you like me to take on?

Personal Insights

  • How does your experience compare to your friends who work at other firms?
  • If it's an associate who was a direct-promote: "What influenced your decision to stay with the firm for the longer term?"

Future and Development

  • What are the next steps from here?
  • How have you liked your experience here so far? Anything surprise you, good or bad?
  • Tell me about what you guys do for fun.

Unique and Thought-Provoking

  • If you could have lunch with three people, dead or alive, who would it be?
  • What is your funniest interview story?

These questions should help you stand out and gain deeper insights into the company and the role. Good luck with your final round!

All the bot questions suck. Would ask about how involved the team gets with post-close integration, ways in which the team measures the success of an acquisition over time (like performance metrics since they’ll never traditionally exit unless they carve out that business), best practices around interacting with cross-functional teams in the process (I.e accounting, product, engineering, partnerships if applicable etc.) which is surprisingly easier said than done.
