Corporate Finance recruiting

Hi guys I am currently a rising sophomore at Williams college where I am a double major in economics and computer science. I was thinking about doing a corp fin internship at a fortune 500 for my sophomore to junior year summer, but is it too late to try and get it? Also do I need to network traditionally like Investment Banking? I don't really understand the process could someone please explain it me. Thank you so much!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about corporate finance recruiting for a sophomore summer internship:

  1. Timing and Availability:

    • It's not too late to try and get a corporate finance internship at a Fortune 500 company. Many of these roles can be found online, and networking can also play a significant role in securing a position.
  2. Networking:

    • While networking is crucial in investment banking, it is also beneficial in corporate finance. Reaching out to FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis) or strategy teams within these companies can be a good approach.
    • Utilize your school's alumni network and attend on-campus info sessions for corporations. This can help you get your foot in the door.
    • Asking your parents if they know any friends or colleagues who can help you land a position can also be effective.
  3. Application Process:

    • Unlike investment banking, corporate finance internships may not have as formal or structured a recruiting process. Therefore, being proactive and reaching out directly to companies or through connections can be more effective.
    • Startups and small companies in your hometown or other places can also be good options. If you are hardworking and the company needs help, they might be willing to take you on.
  4. Alternative Options:

    • If you don't secure a corporate finance internship, consider other finance-related roles. Anything in finance can provide valuable experience and help build your resume for future opportunities.

Remember, persistence and proactive networking are key. Good luck with your search!
