Goldman Sachs rescind my Summer Analyst offer.
Hi all,
I got an offer for Summer Analyst position in Corporate Finance division back in October at GS. Unfortunately, HR rescinded my offer due to my low GPA. I initially made a mistake to update my GPA on my resume. However, to compensate for my low GPA, I have a diverse work and leadership experience that I am hoping to leverage. I think it is unfair to rescind for my offer due to just GPA criteria. I felt devastated, angry and cried my ass off because I worked so hard to get that offer.
Can anyone share advice what are my options? Can I reach out to people who interviewed me on super day and asked them to give me a chance?
So you lied in your resume about your GPA even if it was unconscious? No way to solve that to be honest. Just hustle your GPA and prepare for incoming interviews
You are a liar. Why would they give you a chance?
Can anyone share advice what are my options?
Option 1: Try to get another summer job
Option 2: Spend the whole summer crying about not getting the job
Can I reach out to people who interviewed me on super day and ask them to give me a chance?
No.

really interested in how large the discrepancy was too. I mean to rescind an offer it must’ve been sizeable
Can't compensate for stupid, dumby.
How big was the discrepancy?
Was this after the background check? If so, did you not know they would verify your GPA through it?
Real question is did you just lie about your GPA? Or was it the offer letter said 3.0 and you now have a 2.9. I doubt they rescind for say a rounding “error” like 3.595 to 3.6 but more context is helpful. Which tbh seems like you’ve intentionally avoided answering in the post. Also double and triple checking your work is half the battle in this industry - in this case the resume you’ve submitted.
Either way at this point it’s time to start the hunt again. Also it’s only February how did they find out about your GPA, are they doing background checks right now?
Keep grinding and get that GPA up to!
What happened sucks, but also remember that you got that far in the process so you likely have the skills and background required to be successful. This reflects poorly on you for a few reasons: lacking attention to detail or could be seen as unethical neither of which give employers in finance a good feeling. Reach out to your network, and look for corp fin at smaller companies.
idk how things like this happens, so my gpa is terrible (like 2.4 bad) i got a s&t summer internship at a bb. never put my gpa anywhere on my resume and never talked about it during interview process. after the offer, even asked my friends for insurance payoff odds in case my offer is rescinded due to gpa. (true degen style). Ended up it was an indian firm doing background check on behalf of the bb, and nothing ever happened LOL Same experience with a MM prop firm for grad recruitment.
What BB was this really curious. I've heard GS does background checks with a company that hires ex CIA agents to do background checks.
You must have put like 3.7 and actually had a 3.0. I've heard of people roudning up from 3.46 to 3.4 and that not being an issue but you had to have done something like .1 or more. You really thought they wouldn't find out?
..
you lied about your gpa and got caught. what did you expect?
it’s Corp fin... chill
yea sadly u had to lie about ur gpa to get the offer rescinded, sucks that it happened. honestly tho, isn’t the end of the world. yes u missed out an internship opportunity with one of the best companies in the world, but it’s not like you are blacklisted from every other company bc of this. just grind, learn from the mistake and move forward
