Just an introduction

Hi All,

Firstly, let me introduce myself.

Currently I am penultimate student studying a double degree in Finance/Business Information System Management in Sydney and I have been directed to this website for some sort of guidance on what I want to do in the future in terms of my career. I heard very highly of this website so I might as well give it a try.

Since I am in my penultimate year I need to prepare myself to get an internship by the end of 2017, so I hope to get some insight from experienced members from this forum on how to get an internship.

2 years ago I graduated from high school without any knowledge of what I want to do. In Australia in order to get an admission in university you have to list 9 options of which university you would like to go to and what degree you would like to study. At that time I just listed random 9 options and 4 months later I got an offer to do a double degree in Business/IT.

Now 2 years in, I really don't enjoy Information Technology but I really want to purse a career in business. After going through all my core subjects (each core subject is a fundamental subject to each major; Accounting, Economics,Marketing and Finance). The subject I enjoyed the most was Finance, thus giving me a sense of direction of where I would like to work at. In this core subject the topics I really enjoyed was Corp.Finance where I learnt about Capital Budgeting, Cost of Capital (WACC) and Capital Structuring and what really opened my eyes and the very topic that blow my mind was Capital Structuring. The reason being was the fundamental ideology behind it for example, by making the right decision of the organisation becoming leveraged it may lead to a high return,BUT since there is a linear relationship between risk and return the CFO need to also consider the uncertainty in the decision. So concepts like that opened my minded up about why organisations decided on certain things and why.

Since I sort of made my mind on what I want to do, I would like to get some guidance how to achieve my goal. But also I would like to consult with some experienced individuals who are in the industry of finance "Is Corp.Finance right for me ?" maybe consultation or markets is something I could also get into ?

Looking for a favorable response.

I did two majors in school... you wanna guess how much of it was useful? One of them was finance.. want to guess how much of that was useful? Buckshot. Almost zero other than TVM. Pretty much everything I have learned (other than excel) that I use on a daily basis I either learned as an intern or taught myself through reading and careful observation. Sounds like you have them same aptitude. Goodluck.

Overwhelming grasp of the obvious.

Hahah,

Thanks for your response ! Is there any advice you could give me ? specially what can I do now that would allow me to land an internship or how can I differentiate myself from other applicants ?

sorry, if I am being too general and not specific. aha :)
