Based on previous WSO threads, here are some insights on making the transition from Strategic Partnerships to Strategic Finance or Corporate Development:

  1. Leverage Your Existing Skills:

    • Highlight your experience in strategic partnerships, emphasizing skills like negotiation, relationship management, and strategic planning. These are highly transferable to corporate development roles.
  2. Networking:

    • Utilize your existing network and build new connections within the finance and corporate development sectors. Attend industry events, join relevant forums, and reach out to professionals on LinkedIn.
  3. Education and Certifications:

    • Consider pursuing additional education or certifications that are relevant to corporate development. An MBA or specific finance courses can be beneficial.
  4. Tailored Resume and Cover Letter:

    • Customize your resume and cover letter to highlight your relevant experience and how it aligns with the responsibilities of a corporate development role.
  5. Seek Mentorship:

    • Find mentors who have made similar transitions. They can provide valuable advice and potentially introduce you to key contacts in the industry.
  6. Practical Experience:

    • If possible, take on projects or roles within your current organization that align more closely with corporate development. This can provide you with relevant experience and make your transition smoother.

So I have several questions:

- What made you jump from HFs to Strategic Partnerships?

- Why not Enterprise Sales, or GTM/Biz dev where you have flexibility in your you grow revenue?

- Why do you want to switch to Corp Dev ?

Nah

Well in terms of pay, getting out the office, meeting with Executive teams, and exploring how your product can help someone’s business, I think a GTM Biz dev role at a place that’s growing like OpenAi/Anthropic would be something worth exploring.

I feel like Corp Dev is not really a true driving force when it comes to Tech companies, and the pay ceiling or leadership opportunities would stagnate in comparison to GTM Strategy, Biz Dev, Product, etc.

Would you ever consider going back to the Hedge Fund industry if you could?

Nah
