Citadel Credit Intern Interview

Hi everyone! Recently, I got the opportunity to interview with Citadel for their Credit Internship. I looked online and tried to do research on what would be asked, but there is no clear answer available for this specific role. I was hoping to ask for input on what to expect during my first round interview. As of now, here is what I'm thinking:

  1. Credit Technicals (basic)
  2. Basic Finance Technicals
  3. Brainteasers/probability questions (similar to quant interviews)
  4. Market Making (similar to quant)
  5. Macroeconomic trends/news

Will there be a case study I should be ready for? Furthermore, which of these things should I expect the most/least? Did I miss anything that I should be preparing for? And how would you all recommend last-minute preparation for this interview?

For a Citadel Credit Internship interview, here's what you should focus on based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Credit Technicals: Expect questions that dive into credit analysis, such as understanding credit metrics, credit spreads, and how to evaluate credit risk. Be prepared to discuss credit theses and how macroeconomic trends impact credit markets.

  2. Basic Finance Technicals: You should be ready to answer questions on accounting, DCF, comps, and potentially LBOs, as these are common across finance interviews. Understanding the difference between loans and bonds, as well as how depreciation flows through financial statements, could also come up.

  3. Brainteasers/Probability Questions: These are often included in quant-heavy roles, so it’s a good idea to brush up on probability and logic-based questions. While not the primary focus, they may test your problem-solving skills.

  4. Market Making and Macroeconomic Trends: While market making is more relevant for quant roles, understanding macroeconomic trends and their impact on credit markets is crucial. Be prepared to discuss current events, interest rate movements, and their implications on credit.

  5. Case Study: While not explicitly mentioned for Citadel Credit roles, case studies are common in credit and private equity interviews. You might be asked to analyze a credit situation or evaluate a company’s financials from a credit perspective. Reviewing frameworks for investment decisions and consulting-style case studies could be helpful.

Recommendations for Last-Minute Prep:

  • News and Trends: Stay updated on macroeconomic news, interest rate changes, and major credit events.
  • Technical Guides: Review resources like the CFA Level 1 FR&A book or WSO’s technical guides for a quick refresher.
  • Practice Questions: Go through common technical and fit questions, ensuring you have your story and motivations polished.
  • Case Study Prep: If time permits, practice a few credit-focused case studies or investment theses.

What to Expect Most/Least:

  • Most Likely: Credit technicals, macroeconomic discussions, and fit questions.
  • Least Likely: Pure market-making or quant-heavy questions, though a few brainteasers might still appear.

Good luck with your interview!
