How to Prepare for Private Credit Interview?

Hi All,

I may have a series of private credit interviews for a specific job coming up. I have never worked in the space, and my Finance experience so far has related to FP&A-adjacent with some forms of modeling and valuation analysis, but nothing too crazy. Couldn't really classify it as Discounted Cash Flow analysis either.

What would be the best way to prepare for private credit interviews as someone who has never worked in the space before and knows almost nothing about the space or industry? What types of questions, both technical and behavioral, are asked in private credit interviews, and what are some good resources to study for the technical interview aspects. I assume there is probably going to be some type of modeling test/case study? Does anyone know what type of modeling or case study I may be asked to do in an interview, as well as what types of modeling private credit associates do? Does anyone have any resources or websites they could point me to to practice these types of modeling/case studies?

I am generally pretty adept and intelligent and can figure things out fairly quickly, but just moreso am looking for guidance since I have no exposure whatsoever to this industry or what to expect in interviews, technical interviews, and modeling/case study/technical tests.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

There’s a few good resources online, just google private credit interview prep. Also, ChatGPT has gotten really good at doing mock interviews. I’d leverage that as well. Broadly, private credit is an asset class that is obsessed with cash flow. Modeling is geared towards EBITDA and free cash flow. Technical questions will be the same as in investment banking, but of course focused on debt questions. Feel free to pm if you have any specific questions.
