HR department has gone mad

Hi everyone, Analyst in a local Commercial Bank.

I’ll leave my workplace later this year to pursue a Master in a Top10 BS in Eu, the HR department didn’t get that news with joy… even if I’m open to having a talk with them about an offer for staying after the program they do not want to talk with me, and that made the work environment extremely uncomfortable, each email I send to them (non releated to the master) gets no reply. Today I should’ve got a bonus (which was approved by the MD) for some tasks I completed in January, but it has gone missing, I asked for help to the HR… without any feedback at all. Now, I can understand that maybe it’s just a minor inconvenient, but I’m starting to feel vulnerable and I don’t know if it’s a good choiche to stop having any conversation with them and start to report that to my union representative.

Thanks to everyone who will help me

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s how you can handle this situation:

  1. Document Everything: Start keeping a detailed record of all interactions (or lack thereof) with HR. Save emails, note dates of communication attempts, and document any instances where you feel you’ve been treated unfairly. This will be crucial if you need to escalate the issue.

  2. Escalate Strategically: If HR is unresponsive, consider escalating the issue to your MD or another senior leader who approved your bonus. Frame it professionally, focusing on the missing bonus and the lack of communication rather than making it personal.

  3. Union Representative: If your workplace has a union and you feel vulnerable or mistreated, it’s a good idea to consult your union representative. They can provide guidance on how to address the situation and advocate on your behalf if necessary.

  4. Stay Professional: While the environment may feel uncomfortable, maintain professionalism in all your communications. Avoid burning bridges, especially since you’re open to discussions about returning after your Master’s program.

  5. Consider External Advice: If the situation worsens, you might want to seek legal or professional advice, especially if you suspect retaliation or unfair treatment.

Remember, you have options, and it’s important to protect your rights while maintaining a professional demeanor. Good luck!
